Landfills
- Hominy Creek Transfer Station is open for residential bagged trash only. There will be no charge for Buncombe County residents during this time. Please note, the transfer station will not accept commercial vehicles, and access roads may be impacted by dirt and silt.

Household Trash Collection
Buncombe County
WastePro is operating daily routes for both trash and recycling pickup where roads are safe.
Drop off residential bagged trash at:
- County Landfill: 85 Panther Branch Road, Alexander
- Hominy Creek Transfer Station: 190 Hominy Creek Rd, Asheville, NC 28806
- Daily drop-off sites change daily based on routes. Check Buncombe County's Facebook or check BuncombeReady.org for updates.
- For Tuesday, Oct. 15, WastePro will run normal routes for household trash and recycling will resume in accessible locations in Enka and Candler. WastePro will also have trucks located at ABTech Enka at 1459 Sand Hill Road in Candler from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for residents they are not able to access. Household bagged trash only.
Black Mountain
The Town of Black Mountain has secured four (4) 15-yard dumpsters in two (2) sites for Black Mountain residents (be prepared to show identification) for household trash only. No separate recycling is available at this time. Yard waste, bulk item and debris collection are not available at this time.

ENKA-CANDLER
On Tuesday, Oct. 8, Waste Pro will run routes to the extent possible in the Enka-Candler area for Tuesday customers. They will also have a drop-off location at Leicester Elementary (31 Gilbert Road, Leicester, 28748) from 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM. Waste Pro is operating a bagged trash drop-off at Enka AB Tech Campus, 1459 Sand Hill Road, Candler, until 4:30 p.m. This is for bagged household trash only, no storm debris.
SWANNANOA
Wednesday, October 9: Waste Pro will run routes in accessible areas of Swannanoa. Drop-off locations will be available at Charles C. Bell Elementary (90 Maple Springs Road, Asheville) and Owen Pool (117 Stone Drive, Swannanoa) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
ARDEN
Thursday, Oct. 10, WastePro will run normal routes for household trash to accessible locations in Arden and Fairview. Thursday only, WastePro will also have trucks located at the Ingles on Charlotte Highway and Glen Arden Elementary School for residents who access. That is from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Household bagged trash only.
Haywood
- Household waste will be accepted at the Materials Recovery Facility at 247 Recycle Rd., Clyde and at Convenience Centers at Jonathan Creek, Beaverdam, Bethel, Hazelwood, Mauney Cove, Jones Cove and Highway 110.
- White Oak Landfill has reopened.
Henderson
- Henderson County Transfer Station is open and accepting storm debris with normal fees.
- Henderson County has begun curbside storm debris removal to county residents as a free service.
- The county will pick up storm debris for free if it is pushed to the right of way of a property.
- Storm debris includes tree branches, leaves, logs, building materials, furniture, paint etc.
- Please be patient.
- The county will pick up storm debris for free as quickly as possible.
Madison
- The Hot Springs collection center is operating on normal hours for household trash ONLY:
- Monday: 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
- Wednesday: 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
- Friday: 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- Hot Springs trash pickup is returning to Mondays like usual.
- Please only use this pickup service if you cannot bring it to the collection center yourself.
- The pickup service is being led by volunteers at this time.
Polk
- The Polk County landfill is open Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
- 322 Landfill Rd., Mill Spring, NC 28756
- Drop-off of residential trash is $10.
- GFL trash services will continue the regular schedule. However, certain areas may be inaccessible due to ongoing power outages from Hurricane Helene.
- Two dumpsters are located on Gibson Street for immediate trash disposal due to road inaccessibility.
Transylvania
- The City of Brevard has resumed regular trash pickup.
Yancey
- The Riverside and East Yancey Recycling Centers have resumed operations.
- Daily hours: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday-Saturday
Debris Collection
Debris collection in key areas of the city and county have begun. You can now place your debris at the curb.
Please separate your debris into these categories:
- Construction (building materials, dry wall, lumber, carpet, furniture plumbing)
- Appliances (refrigerator, washer/dryer, air conditioner, stove, water heater, dishwasher,
- Electronics (television, computer, stereo, phone, dvd player)
- Vegetative (tree branches, logs, leaves and plants)
- Hazardous (oil, battery, pesticide, paint, cleaning supplies, compressed gas)
Important:
- Do not place or lean debris near or on trees, poles or other structures. This includes fire hydrants, meters, and curbside trash carts.
- Do not block the roadway. Ensure access for large trucks & emergency vehicles.
- THERE WILL BE MULTIPLE PASSES AND COLLECTIONS - you do not have to have it all out at once.
- Do not attempt the cleanup process without proper protective equipment: long pants, safety glasses, gloves and sturdy shoes are recommended.
- Contractor cannot collect directly from private property. However, if your pile starts at the curb in the right-of-way and stretches into your yard in a continuous manner, their equipment can reach about 18’, as long as there are no overhead lines or obstructions.
- Household Trash should be bagged. Regular sanitation routes will begin on Monday, October 14. Beginning October 14, trash and recycling should be separated into their appropriate carts.
- Storm Debris does not need to be bagged and can be placed in a pile.
