Temporary Pet Boarding

These are services offering temporary boarding or temporary foster care for people who are not able to house their pets due to the effects of Hurricane Helene, with the goal of reuniting once the owner’s situation has stabilized.

Spay/Neuter Assistance

Affordable spay/neuter availability has been greatly impacted by Hurricane Helene. Many high-volume surgery providers have not begun performing procedures yet because of the lack of potable water or are operating at reduced capacity. If you need an affordable spay/neuter done urgently, also consider options outside of WNC.

A team from NC State Extension and the NC Cattlemen's Association is dispatching as needed what gets entered there or called in. Please also reach out to your area livestock county agent if they are available/accessible, as they are the points of contact in the county helping with farm needs and pick up spots in your area.

They invited churches to check with them, as some of the bags are bigger and can be split. Will drop off some Nutri-Source grain-free cat food at the Redeemer Anglican church (by Taco Boy) 10/4 am if they are still distributing.
  • Madison County Animal Control has free pet food, treats, and some cat litter for Madison County Residents and  they are open to surrender animals to. They prefer a message before surrender but it’s okay if you can’t.

  • French Broad Mobile Vet’s Dr. Sheldon is camped out in the afternoons at Madison County Animal Control for Madison County residents with animal medical emergencies and animal control is also giving out food/supplies/medications for animals.
  • Spring Creek Mobile Veterinary Services is open for residents of Spring Creek/Hot Springs for medical calls, will provide refill medications if they are in stock (non-refrigerated and  non-controlled) and to all of Madison County for in-home euthanasia services.

Then they will be distributing twice a week on Tuesdays, and Saturdays in November starting with Saturday, November 2nd and Tuesday, November 5th.
